In Industry City’s latest video series, Juniper’s owner and founder, Shant Madjarian, discusses the changes in the neighborhood overtime and how it directly affected Juniper as an evolving business in today’s market:
When we first started at Industry City in 2014, we had only two employees. The infrastructure, particularly the streets, the loading docks, electrical power pretty much was a mess. There were very few other lighting designers, in fact, and manufacturers. The change over the last three years has been extraordinary. Physical infrastructure has improved, you can find a place to eat or relax in any of the courtyards, and there’s an ecosystem of home goods, designers, and manufacturers.
Most importantly for Juniper, we’ve grown rapidly to 15 employees and are planning to move to a larger space in Industry City. The Innovation Lab and its partners have been fantastic about helping us find local Sunset Park-based employees. Most of my workforce walks to and from work. Finding an affordable manufacturing space in New York City is not easy. But Industry City has not only been affordable but also has been a tremendous partner in our growth.
